Vice President Mike Pence Talks Tax Reform in Columbus

Date: July 17, 2018

Vice President Mike Pence made a special stop in the Ohio capital to talk tax reform.

Touting the positive changes of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Pence emphasized its effect in Ohio.

Last year, with the strong support of every single Ohio Republican in Congress, President Trump signed into law the largest tax cuts and reform in American history. Less than six months later, our tax cuts are already expanding opportunity and putting more money in the pockets of Ohio’s working families,” he said according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Pence spoke about some of those benefits including the first $24,000 income for a married couple is income-tax free, which is doubled from what it was before. He went further and said that the child tax credit is twice as high, rising from $1,000 to $2,000 per child. Pence added that the typical Ohio family of four will get to keep nearly $2,300 more of their money.

“Our tax cuts for job creators also will benefit working families. We cut taxes for businesses large and small, so they can compete—and win—on a level playing field with companies around the world. Companies across the state have already responded with renewed investment in their communities and their workers because a tax cut for business is a pay raise for workers,” he said.

Pence said that in the past six months more than 95,200 Ohio workers have benefitted from tax reform. The Trump administration estimates that as the economy grows due to tax reform, the annual wages of Ohio workers will rise by about $4,000 in the next years.

Since November 2016 Election Day, Columbus businesses have created more than 23,000 new jobs and the unemployment rate in Columbus has fallen to its lowest level since 2001. Across the state, businesses have created more than 74,000 jobs, which includes more than 9,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs.

“The results we’re seeing in Columbus and across the country are nothing short of remarkable,” Pence said.
