Trump Towers in Small Biz Polls

Date: August 18, 2015

Donald Trump's domination in the GOP field extends to small business owners.

Despite the sea of controversy surrounding him, Donald Trump continues to sail into the lead in the GOP primary. In fact, he’s the top choice for president among small business owners, according to a new poll conducted by Manta, a small biz networking platform. A whopping 38 percent selected Trump—more than Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio combined.

And it’s not just some small businesses that seem to be behind him. The first Fox News poll conducted since the debate showed Trump holding his lead in the Republican field, with 25 percent support, ahead of Ben Carson (12 percent) and Ted Cruz (10 percent), Politico reports.

Who Cares If He’s Likeable?

So what is it that has drawn so many voters to the man whom many would call the “least likeable” candidate?

Turns out that people may not like him, but they think he can get the job done. Trump’s direct and unapologetic stance on issues has found an eager audience among small business owners long overburdened by taxes and regulations and frustrated by slow growth on Main Street.

The primary concern for 40 percent of respondents in the Manta poll was the economy, followed by taxes at 21 percent and healthcare at nearly 9 percent. Would Trump be able to address these problems? NFIB’s Media Director Jack Mozloom says that Trump will have to provide more specific policy ideas that address small business concerns before he could garner greater support from Main Street.
