ALBANY (June 11, 2015) – All of the following may
be attributed to Mike Durant, State Director of NFIB in response to the
Governor’s appearance at today’s wage rally in New York City.
“The fact that Governor Cuomo and members of his
administration have consistently appeared at rallies pushing for a dramatic
increase in the minimum wage should put to rest any doubt that this wage board
process is anything less than tainted.
With the board composition lacking credible business
representation and the seemingly allowable hostile environment towards business
owners and leaders at the recent public hearing, it is increasingly apparent
that the Cuomo administration cares little of the small business
perspective.
Public policy should be discussed in a civil, open manner
with all interests weighed accordingly. Absent any serious attempt to
control the wage board proceedings moving forward and assurances that small
business impact will be taken into consideration, NFIB/NY will not encourage
any of our members to share their story.
Small business continues to be ignored by the Governor and
the message being sent through this process is offensive. Small business
deserves better from Governor Cuomo and we remain hopeful that necessary
changes will be made before the wage board concludes.”
