NFIB Opposes Small Business Tradeoff in House Bill 274

Small businesses can’t afford higher UC Trust Fund rates

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Pennsylvania’s leading small business advocacy organization, opposes increasing unemployment compensation rates in legislation aimed to assist victims of domestic violence.

“It’s a shame that Pennsylvania legislators are using domestic violence legislation as their vehicle to increase unemployment compensation rates on small businesses,” said Greg Moreland, NFIB Pennsylvania State Director. “Small businesses have long advocated for a contribution to the UC Trust Fund with no action from the General Assembly. Lawmakers recently passed a $50 billion budget and didn’t use any of it to make the UC Trust Fund more solvent. Now, this legislation threatens to further exacerbate the issues with the UC Trust Fund and make it more expensive to own and operate a small business. We urge Pennsylvania senators to reject this rate increase for the small business community.”

NFIB sent a letter to members of the Pennsylvania Senate urging them to oppose HB 274.
