SB 134 provides relief to Main Street by eliminating swipe fees on sales tax

DENVER (April 29, 2026) – After the Colorado Senate passed SB 134, a bipartisan bill to eliminate credit card swipe fees on sales taxes, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Colorado’s leading small business advocacy organization, released the following statement.

“Swipe fees have quickly become one of the largest expenses for small businesses here in Colorado,” NFIB State Director Michael Smith said. “Our Main Street businesses are collecting sales tax for the state and then paying millions of dollars to big Wall Street banks, all while struggling to keep their doors open. That’s not right. On behalf of our members, we thank the Senate for standing up for small businesses and eliminating swipe fees on sales tax. We urge the House to approve SB 134 quickly and send it to the Governor’s desk for signature.”

Prior to the Senate’s passage of SB 134, Smith appeared on 9NEWS Business Buzz with Ryan Frazier and urged lawmakers to stand with Main Street. The conversation may be viewed below.
