Small businesses alarmed by state’s financial outlook; more potential tax increases
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Maryland’s leading small business advocacy organization, issued the below statement from NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran about today’s Spending Affordability Committee hearing:
“Maryland small businesses are rightly concerned about Maryland’s financial outlook. Today, lawmakers were told that by July 1, 2027, the state will be outspending their revenues by $2 billion. But what analysts couldn’t report on is the concern Main Street employers have about what comes next. Remember, our small businesses were just saddled by the General Assembly with increased taxes and fees this past legislative session. Now, they will likely have to fight tooth and nail against efforts to tax their hard-earned dollars further and preserve the federal tax changes that are allowing them to invest in their businesses and employees.”
NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
