Governor Issues Disaster Declaration for Crawfish Industry

March 6, 2024 Last Edit: July 25, 2024

The drought is having a devastating impact on one of Louisiana's signature industries.

Gov. Jeff Landry today issued a Disaster Declaration for the Crawfish Aquaculture Industry. In February, U.S. Reps. Troy Carter and Clay Higgins asked Governor Landry to issue a statewide disaster declaration in the crawfish aquaculture industry to assist in securing federal resources.

The declaration allows farmers to access Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

“Louisiana’s extreme drought conditions have affected our farmers, our economy, and our way of life,” the governor said. “All 365,000 crawfish acres in Louisiana have been affected by these conditions. That is why I am issuing a disaster declaration. The crawfish industry needs all the support it can get right now.” Click here to learn more.
