Next Weekend’s Sales Tax Holiday a Chance to Support Local Businesses

NFIB State Director Ben Homeyer says South Carolina’s upcoming sales tax holiday on clothes, school supplies, and computers is a chance for people to support small businesses rocked by the series of economic setbacks that began with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This year’s tax holiday is Aug. 5-7. “This year’s tax-free weekend couldn’t come at a better time for small business,” Homeyer said. “Main Street got through the pandemic only to run smack into labor and supply chain issues and the worst inflation we’ve seen in decades.” Small business owners surveyed for NFIB’s latest Small Business Economic Trends report ranked inflation as the No. 1 issue affecting their business, followed by quality of labor. “If you shop at local businesses, you’ll not only find great deals and terrific service, but you’ll help the small, family-run businesses that have continued to meet their customers’ needs and support their communities despite everything that’s been happening with the economy,” Homeyer said. The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization.
