WATCH: NFIB Member Testifies Before Congressional Field Hearing in Peachtree City

Alison Couch, who owns Ignite Accounting and Business Advisors in Harlem, was among the Georgia small business owners who testified at a field hearing of the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee on Friday, April 21. The hearing on “The State of the American Economy: The South” was held at NAECO LLC in Peachtree City. On Friday, Aug. 28, Couch write about her experience testifying before the committee in a column that ran in The August Chronicle. “Labor is tight, the supply chain is unpredictable, and inflation has driven up the cost of everything from raw materials to services,” she wrote. “However, one tax provision that has continued to truly help small businesses, in a huge way, has been the Qualified Business Income Deduction (Section 199A). This deduction is part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 and is set to wind down in less than three years. “My clients are taking the money they are saving with this deduction and investing it into salaries, equipment, and expansion, which translates into investing it into the economy,” she wrote. “Allowing this deduction to sunset would be like imposing a tax hike on small business income and have a ripple effect on Georgia’s and the nation’s economies.” Click here to read the column.
