SB 123 would adjust claims from 26 weeks to 14 weeks

NFIB Indiana State Director Natalie Robinson testified before the Indiana Senate Pensions and Labor Committee in support of SB 123, legislation that adjusts the Indiana unemployment compensation system.

Robinson said, “I believe this legislation represents a necessary and forward-thinking adjustment to the Indiana unemployment compensation system. The bill’s adjustment from 26 weeks to 14 weeks of benefits emphasizes fiscal responsibility. This change ensures that while individuals are supported during unemployment, the fund itself remains sustainable and capable of supporting future claimants.”

NFIB’s December jobs report found that 35% of small business owners reported job openings they could not fill in December – further emphasizing the importance of policies that will help ignite our workforce.

She continued, “The innovative provision that rewards proactive engagement with DWD, granting additional benefits to individuals who enroll in job training programs will enable the state to help individuals enhance their skills. This approach will help individuals become more marketable for job opportunities and encourages them to return to the workforce faster while still offering critical support during transitional periods.”
