NFIB’s Statement on the End of the 2025-2026 Legislative Session

The focus should be on making New York less expensive, stimulating our economy, and creating opportunities for small businesses.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALBANY, NY (June 5, 2026) — The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy association with 11,000 members in the state, released the following statement today by NFIB New York State Director Ashley Ranslow:
“The end of this year’s legislative session was a missed opportunity for New York lawmakers to address the affordability crisis facing small businesses and consumers. While several bills that would have dramatically increased costs for Main Street, like forcing them to pay exorbitant short term disability insurance premiums, failed to pass, there are other bills that will impose significant new mandates, regulations, or the threat of lawsuits that will make it more expensive and difficult for small entrepreneurs. At a time when costs are rising, the focus should be on making New York less expensive, stimulating our economy, and creating opportunities for small businesses to succeed and grow. In the months ahead, NFIB will seek changes to the legislation that would impose unreasonable costs and regulations on small businesses, which are struggling to compete in communities across New York.”
