NFIB’s Legal Center deeply involved in three cases this year

Complementary to bringing the voice of small business to the halls of Congress and the Oregon Legislature is the job of protecting the rights of small businesses in federal and state courts. NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center is involved in three Oregon cases this year.

One is about a lower court’s meal-break decision, which NFIB has asked the Oregon Supreme Court to review. More about NFIB’s involvement in the Athena v. Pelican Brewing case in this web story. Also check out NFIB Oregon State Director Anthony Smith’s interview about the case on the Lars Larson Show.

In another case, before the Oregon Court of Appeals, NFIB has joined with others in submitting a ‘Petition for Judicial Review’ over the Oregon Climate Protection Program, which petitioners say, “imposes steeply declining caps on critical fuel supplies such as natural gas, propane, gasoline, and diesel.” Story here.

In the case of Ana Mirkovic v. TenAsys Corporation, begun last year, NFIB filed an amicus brief questioning whether wage transparency legislation can be used to shield employees from termination when they are negotiating a promotion or raise. Full story here.

“Our Small Business Legal Center does heroic work,” said Smith. “If you are not doing so already, your business – and bottom line – will benefit enormously from keeping up with the SBLC’s work, which also includes many helpful manuals and webinars it produces.”

Last year was the Small Business Legal Center’s 25th anniversary, which you can learn more about from this web story.
