“A decline in profits and fewer sales has dampened optimism for small business owners,” NFIB State Director Michael Smith said. “Ultimately, Main Street is not finding the right applicants to fill their open positions, which is exacerbating the day-to-day challenges of operating their business.”

NFIB released its October 2025 SBET survey, which showed the Small Business Optimism Index declined 0.6 points in October to 98.2.
