Main Street Kansans Applaud Senate’s Passage of Property Tax Relief

January 30, 2025

“Cutting property taxes is the top priority of Kansas small business owners…”

TOPEKA (Jan. 30, 2025) – Following the Senate’s passage of SB 35, which would provide meaningful property tax relief to Kansans, NFIB State Director Dan Murray applauded the bill as a ‘top priority’ for small and family-owned businesses in the Sunflower State.

“As inflation continues to take a toll on Main Street employers and hardworking families alike, tax relief is crucial to buoying our state’s economy and promoting economic growth. Cutting property taxes is the top priority of Kansas small business owners, as a recent NFIB survey found. This is an important step in providing real relief to Kansans, and we urge the House to swiftly follow suit.”

Background:

According to NFIB’s annual survey, more than 88% of Kansas members who participated in the survey strongly support property tax cuts, like the statewide property tax mill levy, local ad valorem rates, and other property taxes.

The latest Small Business Problems & Priorities survey found that tax rates and tax complexity continue to pose a significant problem for small business owners.
