Colorado Small Businesses Urge Lawmakers to Oppose House Bill 1090

March 4, 2025

"HB 1090 is a solution in search of a problem, inserting government into how Colorado’s small businesses set and display pricing of products, goods, and services."

DENVER (March 4, 2025) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) in Colorado announced its strong opposition to House Bill 1090. Urging lawmakers to reject the so-called ‘junk fees’ bill, NFIB State Director Michael Smith warned that the proposal creates significant compliance challenges and could open small business owners up to frivolous litigation.

“HB 1090 is a solution in search of a problem, inserting government into how Colorado’s small businesses set and display pricing of products, goods, and services. Not only does this bill create a regulatory nightmare for small business owners, but it also opens them up to frivolous litigation. Lawmakers need to keep in mind that Main Street Coloradans operate on infamously thin margins and do not have an army of attorneys or compliance officers at their disposal.

“We urge lawmakers to oppose this bill and instead work together to allow more small businesses to do what they do best: create jobs, meet their customers’ needs, and invest in their communities.”
