Colorado Small Business Owners Call on Governor Polis to Protect the Labor Peace Act

“Removing the second vote requirement would make it significantly more difficult for job creators to manage their workforce, control costs, and keep their doors open.”
DENVER (May 1, 2026) – Following the Senate’s passage of HB 1005 to eliminate the second vote requirement for unionization under the Colorado Labor Peace Act, NFIB State Director Michael Smith urged Governor Polis to stand with working Coloradans and small business owners and veto the bill.
“The overwhelming majority of Coloradans oppose removing the second-vote requirement of the Labor Peace Act. Despite this, lawmakers have once again sought to disrupt the balance between employers, employees, and labor union bosses. Removing the second vote requirement would make it significantly more difficult for job creators to manage their workforce, control costs, and keep their doors open. On behalf of Main Street and the hardworking Coloradans they employ, we urge Governor Polis to veto HB 1005 and protect the Labor Peace Act.”
