WATCH: Governor Kemp Speaks at Virtual Small Business Day

Gov. Brian Kemp addressed Georgia’s small business owners as part of NFIB’s Virtual Small Day at the Capitol. “It’s an honor to be a member of this great organization, and I just appreciate all of you all’s support over the years but also just the work that you’re doing across the state and especially supporting a lot of the things that we’re doing to make Georgia the best state in the country to be a small business person or work in a small business,” the governor said. Later, 56th District state Sen. John Albers discussed Senate Bill 331, legislation that would preempt local governments from enacting their own wage and labor mandates on employers. The bill passed the Senate and is pending in the House. Other speakers included Sen. John Kennedy and Rep. Bruce Williamson, who updated owners on several small business bills working their way through the General Assembly, and NFIB Vice President Kevin Kuhlman, who discussed key federal issues. Alison Couch, a member of the NFIB Georgia Leadership Council and owner of Couch Consulting LLC, an accounting firm in Harlem, Ga., discussed the state’s tangible business property tax. NFIB State Director Nathan Humphrey said the virtual event gave NFIB members and other small business owners from around the state the opportunity to learn more about what’s happening in the General Assembly and Congress without having to close their shops and drive to Atlanta.
