Veto-Session Concludes in Illinois, Lame-Duck Session Scheduled

The Illinois General Assembly wrapped up a relatively quiet Veto Session on November 21 and departed the capitol.

Before doing so, however, the legislative leaders released the legislative calendars for 2025 (January-May).

(See here for the Senate Calendar and here for the House Calendar.)

The new General Assembly will be sworn in on January 8, but, prior to that date, the legislative leaders have blocked off January 2-7 for a tentative lame-duck session.

Governor Pritzker and his legislative allies have indicated that they want to “Trump-proof” Illinois during the lame-duck session, potentially considering new environmental, labor, and immigration regulations or policies.

The General Assembly may also consider tax increases or other revenue streams to address Illinois’ projected upcoming budget deficits.
