Illinois lawmakers are looking to broaden the state’s prevailing wage mandate
Illinois lawmakers have introduced a number of bills to extend Illinois’ prevailing wage mandate to additional infrastructure and construction projects.
Prevailing wage mandates create additional administrative and financial burdens on state and federal contractors, making it difficult for smaller, less-established contractors to compete for public contracts.
Limiting small businesses’ ability to compete for public projects reduces competition and drives up public costs, effectively reducing the effectiveness of public (and in some cases) private infrastructure investments.
These costs and paperwork requirements reduce competition, place a significant burden on Illinois’ small businesses, and drive-up costs for taxpayer-funded projects.
Our legislators must act to protect Illinois small business owners’ ability to compete for public projects.
