NFIB issues statement on Gov. Whitmer’s State of the State address

Following Governor Whitmer’s State of the State address, NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher warns against adding to small business uncertainty:

“NFIB was pleasantly surprised to hear Governor Whitmer’s acknowledgment of the regulatory issues that exist in both permitting and licensing in Michigan. These issues are particularly difficult for small business owners who do not have the resources and time to spend dealing with government bureaucracy. NFIB stands ready to help make meaningful changes to the regulatory environment by reversing onerous regulations put into place by past legislatures and through the rules process as well as redundancies that exist within state government.

However, small business owners are still extremely concerned about the effects of anti-small business legislation signed into law last session and proposals from the Senate majority that would further hamper small businesses’ ability to thrive in Michigan. We urge Governor Whitmer and the Legislature to listen to Michigan’s Main Street and avoid policies that will deter small business growth.”

According to NFIB research, the Small Business Uncertainty Index rose 14 points to 100 in January, the 3rd highest recorded reading, after two months of decline.
