Small Businesses Encouraged by House Passage of Third Party Litigation Financing Legislation

The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 105

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Ohio’s leading small business advocacy organization, applauds the Ohio House of Representatives for passing House Bill 105, legislation aimed at increasing transparency and enhancing consumer protections regarding third party litigation financing. HB 105 will require third parties that finance litigation to register with the Ohio Attorney General and disclose their funding agreements. NFIB considered HB 105 a Key Vote for the 136th General Assembly.

“Ohio’s small businesses benefit when the playing field is leveled, and this legislation does that for both consumer and commercial agreements,” said Jared Weiser, NFIB Ohio State Director. “Litigation is costly and time-consuming, especially for small businesses. House Bill 105 establishes a commonsense framework that will increase transparency, enhance consumer protection, and protect against foreign influence in Ohio’s courts. We are pleased to see HB 105 get passed out of the House today and thank lawmakers for prioritizing this issue for Main Street.”

NFIB previously testified before the Ohio House Insurance Committee in support of HB 105.
