The state Senate Expanding Georgia’s Workforce Study Committee has scheduled a series of public meetings throughout the state as lawmakers search for a way to address the ongoing issue. The first hearing was held on June 20 in Atlanta. Upcoming hearings will be held in Savannah on July 25, West Point on Aug. 22, Commerce on Sept. 19 and Dalton on Oct. 26 and conclude with a final hearing at the State Capitol on Nov. 14. Small business owners who wish to speak at one of the upcoming hearings should contant contact Ali Farmer (ali.farmer@senate.ga.gov) or Hayley Williams (hayley.williams@senate.ga.gov). NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins said NFIB members should consider attending and speaking out on the challenges they face finding and keeping qualified workers. “Labor remains one of the biggest challenges facing Georgia’s small businesses,” Loggins said. “Georgia’s unemployment rate was 3.2% in May, which is great on the one hand, but it also makes it harder for small businesses and other employers to fill the positions they have available.
