‘Short Session’ of NC General Assembly to Begin on April 11

March 3, 2026

The primary focus of this year's session will be spending

Lawmakers will return to Raleigh on April 21 for the start of the 2026 short session of the North Carolina General Assembly.
Short sessions usually focus on spending, but legislators will consider policy issues as well, NFIB State Director Gregg Thompson said.
“It may be several more weeks before this year’s legislative agenda comes into focus, but our goal will be protecting small businesses from higher taxes, new fees, and burdensome regulations,” he said.
“Small business is the foundation of North Carolina’s economy,” Thompson said. “As the session moves forward, NFIB will continue to support policies that promote a stable and competitive business climate for job creators across the state.”
