Senate President Henry, Rep. Echols Receive NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award

April 16, 2025

The award recognizes lawmakers for their unwavering support of Louisiana's job creators

NFIB, the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, has presented its prestigious Guardian of Small Business Award to state Senate President Cameron Henry and state Rep. Michael Echols for their unwavering support of Louisiana’s small business community.

The award is given to lawmakers who demonstrate exceptional leadership and advocacy on behalf of small businesses. The NFIB Louisiana Leadership Council, an advisory board comprised of NFIB members, voted to honor Senator Henry and Representative Echols for their outstanding contributions to advancing policies that help small businesses grow and thrive.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Louisiana’s economy, and we’re proud to recognize these two leaders for their strong support,” said NFIB State Director Leah Long. “Senator Henry and Representative Echols understand the challenges facing small business owners, and they have consistently worked to make Louisiana a better place to own and operate a business.”

Senator Henry represents Senate District 9 and previously served in the House of Representatives for 12 years. Throughout his legislative career, Henry has been a consistent, common-sense conservative voice for small business. He played a leading role in advancing insurance and tax reform efforts in the Senate, demonstrating his commitment to tackling issues that impact small employers across the state.

Representative Echols, who represents House District 14, brings a business-minded perspective to the legislature. Elected in 2019, Echols serves on the Labor and Industrial Relations Committee and has championed efforts to reform workers’ compensation, improve the insurance climate, and strengthen workforce development. His dedication to creating a more business-friendly Louisiana has made a meaningful difference for small employers in his district and statewide.

“We’re grateful for the leadership of Senator Henry and Representative Echols for their work on behalf of Main Street businesses and look forward to continuing to work with them in this year’s session of the Louisiana Legislature.”
