Alabama’s labor force participation rate, which sits at little more than 57%, is the third-lowest in the country, according to data from the St. Louis Federal Reserve. Small business owners regularly tell NFIB that they have unfilled positions. In fact a recent survey of NFIB members found that nearly 77% of respondents would consider hiring and training high school students if they could work part-time during the school day as a part of a cooperative education program. There’s no doubt filling open positions continues to be an enormous challenge for small business owners across the state.
