NFIB's Pennsylvania Small Business Day in Harrisburg a Great Success

Last week, NFIB PA hosted its 2023 Pennsylvania Small Business Day in Harrisburg, bringing business owners from around the Commonwealth to the Capitol to discuss the challenges they face with state and federal officials and NFIB policy experts. Attendees began the day with a federal update and discussion on issues impacting the small business community with U.S. Representative Scott Perry (PA-10). Perry discussed federal spending and the national debt, the impact of inflation on Pennsylvania families and job creators, and ramping up American energy production, among other topics. NFIB State Director Greg Moreland then led briefings with NFIB members and staff on NFIB’s legislative priorities in the General Assembly, grassroots activism among the organization’s 13,000 member businesses, and the political efforts of the NFIB PA PAC (political action committee). “It’s always gratifying and inspiring to see our members in Harrisburg, taking time from their very busy workdays to talk with fellow small business owners and elected officials and policy makers about the challenges they face,” said Moreland. “NFIB’s 2023 Small Business Day in the Capitol was a great success, and our members appreciate the lawmakers and state officials who engaged with them in frank discussions of the issues that matter to Main Street.” Attendees also met with Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis to hear about the policy agenda of the Shapiro/Davis administration and share NFIB’s priorities and concerns. This meeting was followed by a legislative panel discussion with members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate, including Senators Scott Hutchinson and Devlin Robinson as well as Representatives Jonathan Frtiz, Parke Wentling, Josh Kail, Mike Cabell, and Aaron Kaufer, The public components of Small Business Day finished with a discussion with Pennsylvania’s Small Business Advocate NaZarah Sabree from the Pennsylvania Office of Small Business Advocate (OSBA), the independent state agency that represents the interests of small business customers in regulated utility matters before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), federal regulatory agencies, and in state and federal courts. Throughout the day, lawmakers saluted the activism of NFIB and its members in Pennsylvania and urged participants to stay focused and engaged as the General Assembly considers bills that impact their businesses. “The voice of small business was heard loud and clear in Harrisburg,” said Moreland. “Our members discussed high taxes, overregulation, the continuing threat of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), and the overriding need of relief for our Main Street businesses. NFIB and its members stand ready to work with Governor Shapiro and lawmakers of both parties to improve Pennsylvania’s economy and fuel small business job creators.” If you couldn’t make it to Harrisburg, you can still join the Voice of Small Business by completing our action alerts. https://www.nfib.com/pennsylvania/now/?mkt_tok=NDgzLVNZTS0wNDkAAAGLZ_WRpk7muLku3Hm8LiSCvE_7pCbaG0T4JEs1J570Jzb7w_EE9UoRpwWD2kwj9EYrnW82qTXOuwoCIVPyoQI
