FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HARTFORD, CT (February 7, 2024) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy group, released the following statement by State Director Andy Markowski in response to Gov. Ned Lamont’s State of the State Address this afternoon:

“Gov. Lamont’s State of the State Address is well received by Connecticut’s small business owners,” said Andy Markowski, NFIB State Director in Connecticut. “NFIB strongly agrees with the need for sound budgeting and stability, and to that end it is vital that the legislature follows Gov. Lamont’s lead and adheres to the fiscal guardrails that are in place. Main Street businesses across the state work hard to maintain stable budgets, and the legislature should work with Gov. Lamont to maintain a stable fiscal environment in our state that encourages start-ups and enables them to grow. Further, small businesses need a reasonable and predictable regulatory landscape so they can plan, grow, and create new jobs. Expanding paid leave in the state would amount to a crushing burden on Connecticut’s small businesses.”
