NFIB Testifies on Small Business Issues at Ohio Legislature

NFIB Ohio attended several hearings in February to advocate for small businesses

NFIB Ohio State Director Chris Ferruso and Assistant State Director Cameron Garczyk recently testified before various committees at the Ohio Legislature on issues related to small businesses.

The Ohio House Energy Committee heard testimony on House Bill 15, Amend competitive retail electric service law. NFIB’s Cameron Garczyk testified in support of the bill as it will result in meaningful changes to promote and build upon prior reforms that seek to maintain a deregulated approach to Ohio energy generation and distribution structures.

“Small businesses’ growth and expansion hinges on the ability of our businesses to access affordable, reliable energy, much of which is already or will in the future be generated right here in Ohio,” Garczyk explained.

The Ohio Senate Workforce Development Committee heard testimony on Senate Bill 50, minor work hours. The Committee also addressed Senate Bill 33, which allows employers to post certain labor law notices on the internet. NFIB’s Chris Ferruso testified in support of the legislation and pointed out that it enables flexibility for the employer and employees.

“This legislation would provide greater ease of access to employees as they would have the opportunity to view workplace notices anywhere from their personal, work, or public computers or their cell phones without having to be at the physical location where the posters are located,” he said.

Lastly, the Ohio Senate Judiciary Committee met to hear testimony on Senate Bill 10, third party litigation funding. NFIB supports the legislation as it provides important consumer protections, ensures transparency to the parties involved in litigation, and protects the integrity of Ohio courts from foreign interference.

NFIB’s Ohio Team will continue to monitor legislation coming out of Columbus – stay tuned for information on NFIB’s upcoming annual Small Business Day!
