NFIB Supporting Amendment to Ban a Statewide Property Tax

NFIB Supporting Amendment to Ban a Statewide Property Tax

June 1, 2026

The proposed constitutional amendment will be on the November ballot

Now that the General Assembly has ended its 2026 regular session, NFIB is shifting its focus to Yes on 2, an effort to pass a proposed state constitutional amendment that would prohibit the state from imposing a statewide property tax.

Amendment 2, which will be on the November ballot, is a proposed constitutional amendment that would prohibit the state from imposing a statewide property tax. Tennessee doesn’t have a state property tax, but state law allows one to be enacted. The state collected a property tax until 1949.

The coalition recently announced its statewide leadership team, which includes Gov. Bill Lee as chairman and chairs in all 95 Tennessee counties. Click here to read the full list.

NFIB’s partners in the coalition include the Tennessee Farm Bureau Federation, Tennessee REALTORS, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Americans for Prosperity, and the Beacon Center of Tennessee.

A recent poll commissioned by Yes on 2 found that 64% of Tennessee voters support the amendment.

“Passage of this amendment would help ensure that Tennessee remains a great place for entrepreneurs to own, operate, and grow their businesses,” NFIB State Director Jim Brown said.
