NFIB Statement in Response to Public Service Commission's Rejection of Larger Subsidies for Renewable Energy Projects

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ALBANY, NY (October 12, 2023) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), New York and the nation’s leading small business advocacy association, today released the following statement by NFIB State Director Ashley Ranslow: “The Public Service Commission made the right decision in rejecting petitions from developers for larger subsidies on renewable energy projects. Developers were seeking billions in additional subsidies, which are paid for by consumers, including small businesses, through higher utility rates. The PSC’s decision saves small businesses from a 10.5% increase in their utility bills at a time when Main Street is already struggling with higher energy costs and 83% of New Yorkers cite the cost of living in New York as a major problem. Small businesses and New Yorkers are not ATMs; it is up to the developers to control costs. NFIB applauds the PSC for not adding to the financial burdens plaguing small businesses and all New Yorkers.”
