What you need to know to protect your employees and yourself

The Washington State Legislature approved state Attorney General Nick Brown’s controversial “Immigrant Worker Protection Act,” HB 2105, earlier this year despite strong objections from NFIB and other employer groups.

This new law, which takes effect June 11, requires all employers to post information in common areas and lays out specific notification provisions in the event your business receives an I-9 audit notification from any one of several federal agencies, including ICE, USDOL, or the US Justice Department.

This short video by NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center provides an overview of these new requirements, as well as tips for ensuring your business is prepared to comply before enforcement begins in October.

The required poster and notice templates will be available on the Attorney General’s website in the coming months. A specific link is not yet available.

NFIB will continue to update members as more information and online resources are provided by the Attorney General’s Office.
