Small business owners gathered in Tallahassee to engage with legislators
2025 Small Business Day
With the 2025 legislative session in full swing, NFIB hosted its annual Small Business Day in Tallahassee on March 13, 2025. Small business owners from across the Sunshine State gathered to talk about the most pressing issues facing small businesses. Owners heard from several elected officials including Representatives Randy Maggard, Shane Abbott, Gallop Franklin, Ryan Chamberlin, and Tom Fabricio.
Legislative Update
NFIB was pleased to see support for eliminating the business rent tax, a top priority for small businesses for more than a decade. NFIB has been successful in the past by reducing it from 6% to 2% and believe the legislature will follow suit and eliminate the final 2%.
NFIB is monitoring several bills including:
• NFIB supports legislation that would allow employers to hire workers for apprenticeships and internships at a wage that is lower than the state minimum wage if it’s part of a curriculum program where the worker needs on the job experience to complete their vocational training.
• NFIB opposes a bill that is attempting to undo some of the tort reform changes NFIB advocated for in 2023. NFIB stands strongly in support of the tort reform changes that were made that reined in the out-of-control billboard attorney industry.

NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
