Governor Braun’s UI Executive Orders Strengthen Small Business Labor Market

February 28, 2025

Gov. Braun signed executive orders targeting UI fraud efforts, work-search requirements

NFIB Indiana State Director Natalie Robinson applauds Governor Braun for signing recent executive orders aiming to reduce unemployment insurance fraud and promote work-search activities:

“The small business labor market is difficult, and small employers across Indiana continue to struggle to find qualified workers for their open positions. Governor Braun’s executive orders are a great step in working toward strengthening the labor market and promoting a robust Hoosier workforce. By working to reduce fraud in our Unemployment Insurance program and building up our employees, small businesses will benefit.”

Executive Order 25-33 directs the Department of Workforce Development to identify fraud and abuse in the unemployment insurance program.

Executive Order 25-32 requires additional work search activities for recipients of unemployment insurance, requires recipients to make contact with a Work One office about searching for work in the first week of enrollment, and tasks the Department of Workforce Development to more rigorously audit work search activities to ensure compliance.
