Florida Small Businesses Highlight Top Priorities for 2026 Legislative Session

January 13, 2026

The 2026 legislative session began today

As Florida lawmakers returned to Tallahassee for the 2026 legislative session today, the state’s small business owners urge them to prioritize pro-growth legislation to further strengthen Florida’s small business community.

“This legislative session, Florida’s small business owners have identified several pieces of legislation that would lessen the regulatory burdens on small businesses and further improve the business climate,” said Bill Herrle, NFIB Florida Executive Director. “Florida is a great state to run and operate a small business, and our members are looking forward to the Legislature advancing more pro-small business policies during the session.”

NFIB’s Top 5 2026 Legislative Priorities Include:

  • SB 1698: NFIB supports this legislation that would allow small employers the option of satisfying mandatory workplace poster requirements by means of an electronic notice directly to the employee.
  • SB 122: NFIB supports legislation that would repeal local gross receipts business taxes except for those already enacted.
  • SB 126 & HB 191: NFIB supports verification of reemployment assistance benefit eligibility, and this legislation would return to the former standards to obtain benefits and establish an employer hotline to report reemployment assistance fraud.
  • SB 1412 & HB 221: NFIB supports this bill that would allow a nine-month voluntary waiver of minimum wage requirements to foster workplace learning opportunities.
  • SB 240 & HB 575: NFIB supports legislation that preempts the regulation of single-use containers to the state.
