December 16, 2025

NFIB member urged Congress to increase access to affordable health care options

What it means: NFIB member Marcie Strouse, an Iowa small business owner, recently delivered a testimony to the U.S. Senate about the health care affordability challenge for small businesses.

Our take: The cost of health insurance ranks as the number one small business problem, a position it has held since 1986, according to NFIB data. NFIB urges Congress to offer affordable and flexible health care options for small business owners and employees.

TAKE ACTION

The voice of small business owners has the biggest impact on lawmakers. NFIB Member Marcie Strouse, an Iowa small business owner, testified before the U.S. Senate, with solutions to address the health insurance affordability crisis.

“For more than two decades, I have helped small business owners navigate an increasingly complex health benefits landscape,” said Marcie. “I’ve sat across from owners who lie awake at night wondering how they will continue to afford employee coverage. And as a small business owner myself, I understand how an uneven playing field can hold back growth.”

Marcie explained the underlying issue is too many government regulations separating patients from the care they need. Congress needs to provide relief for small business owners and improve the well-being of millions of American workers and their families. Marcie recommended implementing health care tools that increase choice, flexibility, and affordability for small businesses. Read Marcie’s full testimony and learn more about NFIB’s research and top legislative solutions to make health care more affordable for small businesses.
