Small Business Owners Descend on Capitol Hill to Make Their Voices Heard

The NFIB Fly-In is just around the corner, June 12-14 in Washington DC, with a sold-out crowd participating in this annual event. The NFIB Fly-In is a two-day event that gives NFIB members from all over the nation a chance to meet with other small business owners and share their stories with their lawmakers during meetings on Capitol Hill. The impact of the advocacy during the Fly-In is significant and has resulted in key pro-small business policy victories and the defeat of harmful proposals. Small business owners are busy facing economic challenges, but the Fly-In is important enough for them to take time away from their businesses to personally share their concerns and perspectives with their elected officials. The small business owners who attend the Fly-In will provide vital insights that lawmakers need to know about the effects of federal laws and policy proposals. This is also a chance to establish relationships and educate legislators on the realities of running a small business in their districts and states, which is crucial this year with many newly elected members of Congress. One of the top priority issues on the agenda this year is pushing for support of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act. Congress can provide tax certainty by making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent. The Small Business Deduction (Section 199A) allows pass-through entities like Sole Proprietorships, S-Corporations, Partnerships, or LLCs to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income. Businesses across the country have benefited from this deduction, using the funds to invest in employees, benefits, and their businesses. The 20% Small Business Deduction is set to expire after 2025, and the Main Street Tax Certainty Act would make it permanent. Along with focusing on the legislative agenda, the NFIB Fly-In offers a variety of programs and speakers to update the attendees on current advocacy issues and prepare them for their Hill meetings. Some highlights of the two-day event include:

Breakfast Program: Good Morning with Members of Congress Over breakfast, attendees will hear directly from two members of Congress with the opportunity to ask questions about the issues that matter to them most.

Political Update Special guest speaker David Wasserman of the Cook Political Report will provide insights into the candidates and dynamics shaping the 2024 elections.

Legislative Briefing & Hill Meeting Roundtables Attendees will gain critical background and recommendations at the NFIB Fly-In for making the most of their Capitol Hill meetings with legislators.
