Learn How NFIB’s PACs Choose Which Candidates to Endorse

NFIB’s Federal Political Action Committee (Fed PAC) consists of NFIB members who voluntarily donate outside of NFIB membership dues. The Fed PAC is governed by NFIB members who serve on the committee and meets regularly to review U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and Governor candidate-support recommendations. Endorsements are based exclusively on a candidate’s positions and record on small business issues, regardless of party affiliation. NFIB staff conducts thorough research on candidates, campaigns, and the political environment to determine where NFIB can use its resources in the most effective and efficient way. In deciding to support an incumbent or back a challenger, the committee reviews each candidate’s stances on small business issues. “As small businesses face historic economic headwinds, it is important that they have advocates in Congress,” said Sharon Sussin, NFIB Senior National Political Director. “Now more than ever, small business owners need dependable representation and leaders who will support pro-small business policies.” NFIB’s endorsement process primarily focuses on protecting incumbents who are proven allies of small business, electing pro-small business candidates in open seats, and challenging anti-small business incumbents. NFIB staff interviews candidates and requires them to fill out a questionnaire. For open seats, NFIB surveys all members in the state or district, asking if NFIB should be involved in the race and which candidate members recommend supporting to be the Voice of Small Business.
