Wanted: Suggestions for Reforming the Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance System

The Department of Workforce Development has announced a public comment period to gather recommendations for changes to Wisconsin’s Unemployment Insurance system.

A virtual public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, November 21st from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and also from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Link to register: 2024 Unemployment Insurance Public Hearing

“The public comment process is an important opportunity for civic engagement and the future of our programs,” said Amy Pechacek, Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development, “we invite workers and employers to participate in a format that is convenient, and we value anyone’s contributions.”

The department, in collaboration with the Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council, conducts a statewide hearing each biennium to provide an opportunity for the public to suggest changes to the UI program.  Comments collected during the public hearing process help shape the agenda for reforming the unemployment insurance system.

For those unable to participate in the public hearing are encouraged to send their written comments to: uilawchange@dwd.wisconsin.gov or by mail to: Janell Knutson, Chair, Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council, P.O. Box 8942 , Madison, WI 53708-8942.  Written comments will be accepted between November 14, 2024, and November 22, 2024.

Important: Members of the public submitting comments should not include their social security number, date of birth, street address, or issues involving their UI claim in their submission
