NFIB members are invited to sign up for a test run of the state unemployment insurance site

At last week’s Unemployment Compensation Advisory Council meeting, stakeholders received an update on the state of unemployment insurance (UI) in Tennessee.

Notably, Tennessee’s updated Unemployment Insurance Tax System is scheduled to transition on May 27. The Department of Labor & Workforce Development has invited interested NFIB members to join their tech team either live in Nashville (Metrocenter) or remotely on Monday, March 17, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Employers and CPAs can join and stay on or drop off as their time allows. Contact State Director Jim Brown by Friday, March 7, if you are interested in participating and would like more information.

The state’s UI trust fund remains in good shape, with a balance of $1.4 billion. Tax rates remain at the lowest level (Table 6).

Nearly 3,000 Disaster Unemployment Assistance claims have been filed as a result of last year’s flooding in northeast Tennessee. More than 400 claimants are still receiving assistance before the April 5 end date, while 644 claims were removed from the system as fraudulent or erroneous.

Visit the department’s landing page for employers here. Visit their landing page for UI account activation here.
