NFIB responds to Gov. Wes Moore’s State of the State address

NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran issued the following statement in response to Governor Wes Moore’s State of the State address:

“NFIB members are concerned with the Governor’s tax proposal. Small businesses would rather invest their earnings back into their business so they can grow their local economies, raise their workers’ wages, and expand their business. Maryland’s small business owners know how to grow their businesses better than anyone else. They can’t do that in the face of higher taxes and fees.”

According to NFIB’s Problems and Priorities survey, state taxes on business income is one of the top 10 issues currently facing small businesses. In addition, Maryland small business owners are at risk of a tax increase unless Congress passes the Main Street Tax Certainty Act and makes the Small Business Deduction permanent.
