ICYMI: Are Even Higher Energy Costs on the Horizon in NY?

On April 12, NFIB in New York hosted a free webinar about the potential changes to New York’s energy and environmental policies that will have far-reaching effects on small businesses and consumers. The proposed plan will impact energy prices and reliability and fundamentally change the energy that heats businesses and homes, the vehicles New Yorkers operate, and many aspects of daily life. The webinar covered the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), a law that requires New York State to achieve ambitious greenhouse gas emissions reductions. To achieve those climate goals, the law authorized an unelected council to draft a plan that completely overhauls the state’s energy and environmental policies. This draft plan was published and has significant implications for the state’s economy, small businesses, and all New Yorkers. The plan considers bans on: – Natural gas use in new buildings or new gas service to existing buildings – New natural gas-based appliances (cooking, home heating, water heating, clothes drying) – Gasoline-fueled cars – Diesel-fueled trucks The plan also proposes caps on emissions, taxing businesses on their emission levels, and much more. If you didn’t attend and would like to learn more, you can watch the webinar recording on demand: VIDEO VIEW LINK: https://vimeo.com/700974648/2872cf5183 VIDEO DOWNLOAD LINK: https://vimeo.com/nfibvideo/download/700974648/efa017429e More importantly, New York’s elected leaders and decisionmakers need to hear from you – the small business owners about your concerns. Help NFIB fight back by submitting comments on the climate scoping plan. The deadline to submit comments is June 10th. With a few moments of your time and a couple of clicks, you can make your voice heard.
