NFIB’s recent Small Business Rundown episode answers some of small business owners’ most frequently asked questions from NFIB’s advocacy process to top priority issues such as making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent, workforce shortages, and debt collection issues.
In Episode 29, NFIB experts Jeff Brabant, Vice President of Federal Government Relations, Elizabeth Milito, Executive Director of the NFIB Small Business Legal Center, and Holly Wade, Executive Director of the NFIB Research Center, answered various questions submitted by small business owners.
On the topic of advocacy, small business owners asked how NFIB decides which issues to focus on and how NFIB recognizes members of Congress as guardians of small business.
“NFIB focuses on issues most important to small business,” said Brabant. “We ballot our members twice a year on the federal level and once on the state level on pressing issues (usually tax and regulatory).” When a Congressperson or Senator’s voting record in support of key small business issues reaches over 70%, NFIB awards them as a guardian of small business.
Focusing on the economy, Wade answered questions regarding the job market’s stall and recession concerns.
“Small businesses have been suffering job shortages. Early retirees are disrupting the market. Not enough people are entering the market resulting in the market taking several years to normalize and fill those open jobs,” Wade shared during the podcast.
The podcast concluded with Milito answering legal questions, including offering ways for small business owners to navigate debt collection issues.
“NFIB has resources on debt collection. We have webinars every year or two on debt collection and avoiding debt collection as well,” said Milito. “The legal center also runs a support line on debt collection and has a debt collection guide.”
