Senate Delivers Small Business Victory: Texas Regulatory Consistency Act Passes!

On Tuesday, the Senate passed Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) and Sen. Brandon Creighton’s (R-Conroe) Texas Regulatory Consistency Act (HB 2127) which prevents cities and municipalities from enacting labor and employment regulations, like predictive scheduling and paid leave, and restricting the use of gas-powered motors. During the Senate floor debate, Sen. Creighton said: “If we want to remain the envy of the nation, we must pass this bill.” Earlier this month, the bill advanced out of the Senate Business and Commerce Committee and in April, received bipartisan support in the House of Representatives. In an interview with KXAN in Austin, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman said: “The compliance nightmare is just unimaginable…Anything that is regulating a small business across county lines, across this state, needs to come from a one-stop shop [in the Texas Legislature], not 1,600 jurisdictions all across the state of Texas.” WATCH: Patchwork of Regulations Creates a ‘Compliance Nightmare’ for Texas Job Creators
