Texas Regulatory Consistency Act Advances Out of Senate Business and Commerce Committee

AUSTIN (May 4, 2023) – Job creators across the Lone Star State are grateful to lawmakers on the Senate Business and Commerce Committee for voting in favor of the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act (HB 2127 / SB 814). The bill, which was introduced by Rep. Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) and Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) will now head to the Senate floor for further debate. In April, the bill received bipartisan support in the House of Representatives. Following the Committee’s approval, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman said: “It’s difficult to overstate how challenging the past three years have been for our Main Street job creators. But as prices escalate, property taxes increase, and workers remain in short supply, small business owners are continuing to struggle in this economic environment. Arduous local ordinances, no matter how well-intended, exacerbate these challenges. That’s why our members are asking for one set of rules to follow statewide and for the Senate to quickly advance the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act.” Background: The Texas Regulatory Consistency Act would give local job creators one set of rules to follow statewide while ensuring cities and counties retain their authority to address local concerns. Several of our local job creators testified before both the House and Senate in support of the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act.
