Rep. Beau Beaullieu (District 48) has received the NFIB Guard of Small Business Award. State Director Dawn McVea presented the award to Beaullieu on Aug. 16 at the Iberia Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Issue Breakfast. The award recognizes state legislators for their support of Louisiana’s Main Street businesses. McVea says Beaullieu was chosen because of his leadership on small business issues such as amending state Unemployment Trust Fund triggers to overhauling the state’s sales tax collection system. “When the COVID shutdowns forced workers into unemployment and our trust fund quickly went bankrupt, he was there sponsoring a measure to freeze the triggers that would have resulted in a massive tax hike on small businesses,” McVea said. “Beau has worked with all stakeholders to find a solution to our broken sales tax collection structure. “When the proposed constitutional amendment failed, he went back to find another way,” McVea said. “The passage of HB 558 during the 2023 legislative session sets in motion an avenue by which sales tax collection can begin to happen in a much more user-friendly way for Louisiana-based small businesses who are currently at a major disadvantage to the system out of state retailers get to use. “Representative Beaullieu is a true leader and champion of small business, and I am pleased to present him with this award.”
