Small Business Rundown guests explain the importance of the 20% Small Business Deduction
Podcast: NFIB Members, U.S. Rep. Lloyd Smucker Push to Protect Small Business Tax Deduction
What it means: Two Pennsylvania small business owners and Representative Lloyd Smucker (PA-11) join the Small Business Rundown for an episode highlighting what the 20% Small Business Deduction does for small businesses.
Our take: “It’s critical for small business owners listening today to be aware of the 20% Small Business Deduction, especially what it means for them if it expires and why that isn’t fair when corporations will still benefit from the reduced rate.” – Lauren Hancock, NFIB Director of Government Relations
Take Action: Join over 80,000 small business owners in signing NFIB’s petition to make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent.
NFIB members continue to speak out on the importance of the 20% Small Business Deduction as it nears expiration. Without Congressional action, 9 out of 10 small businesses are going to face a massive tax hike when it expires in 2025. The Small Business Rundown features NFIB members Wendy and Marci Bittner of LOSHAW Thermal Technology, Representative Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), and Lauren Hancock, NFIB’s Director of Government Relations to discuss why this is a crucial issue for small businesses this year and what Congress can do.
Wendy and Marci Bittner are small business owners in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. The 20% Small Business Deduction has allowed them to buy new business equipment, give employee bonuses, and offer 100% paid healthcare premiums for employees.
“My question is, can the Federal government afford small businesses to cut costs and slow down 20%? Because that’s exactly what happens,” explains Marci. “You just can’t tell us to work harder; we’re already doing that.”
Rep. Smucker discusses why this issue is so important to him and his constituents, and Hancock provides an update on NFIB’s advocacy efforts. NFIB has more information available on the 20% Small Business Deduction and the podcast episode Pennsylvanians Explain Crucial 20% Small Business Deduction is available on all listening platforms.
“When you hear directly from constituents, members of Congress listen,” says Smucker. “Share your stories with your member of Congress, ask your member whether they support extension of 199A, bring them to your business, talk to them about how you reinvest the tax savings because of 199A, all of that is really important.”
