A new NFIB webinar covers hiring, employee management, leave, and other essential employment law policies to incorporate into an employee handbook.
NFIB’s webinar Must Have Employee Policies for Small Business – Hiring, Firing, and Staying Compliant with NFIB Small Business Legal Center Executive Director Beth Milito covered hiring, employee management, leave, and other essential employment law policies to include in an Employee Handbook. The webinar highlighted NFIB’s Model Employee Handbook, available free on NFIB’s website.
Milito reviewed 10 policies that small businesses should consider including in an employee handbook:
- Introduction
- At-Will Statement
- Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
- Policy Against Unlawful Harassment
- Wage and Hourly Policy
- Attendance and Remote Work Policy
- Leave and Time Off Policy
- Discipline Policy
- Health and Safety Policy
- Privacy Policy
“All of these policies are not required,” said Milito. “Make your employee handbook your own and avoid just copying and pasting an existing guide, or you may incur policies your business doesn’t require.”
