Welcome to NFIB California’s one-stop webpage for the most important small business information for Election Day, November 5. This story will be updated as new information becomes available and dates or deadlines pass. Below are NFIB CA PAC’s endorsements for the California State Legislature and NFIB’s recommendations on three ballot propositions.
Registration
The deadline to register to vote is October 21, 2024. Same day voter registration is available from October 22 through Election Day.
Voting
All registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the General Election.
  • October 8, 2024: In-person absentee voting begins.
  • October 29, 2024: Deadline to request an absentee ballot.
  • November 5, 2024: Election Day and in-person absentee ballot return deadline.
  • November 12, 2024: Deadline to receive absentee ballots by mail that are postmarked on or before
Election Day
ID Requirements: California does not require photo ID. However, if you are voting for the first time after registering to vote, you may be asked to show a form of identification when you go to the polls. (Endorsements for Congress are made by the NFIB FED PAC) Ballot Measures
  • Proposition 5–Vote NO Lowers the voter threshold to 55% from its current two-thirds in order for local governments to engage in deficit financing through bonds. NFIB news release.
  • Proposition 32–Vote NO Raises California’s minimum wage rate to $18 an hour. NFIB news release.
  • Proposition 33–Vote NO Authorizes local governments to enact rent control ordinances on the rent of private properties. NFIB news release.
  • Proposition 36–Vote YES Addresses retail theft by reforming laws that have dramatically increased homelessness, drug addiction, and theft throughout California. NFIB news release.
Another ballot measure, the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act, which NFIB endorsed, was ordered removed from the November election ballot by the Supreme Court of California. Endorsement news release here.
