Next Weekend’s Sales Tax Holiday a Chance to Support Local Businesses

NFIB State Director Gil White says West Virginia’s upcoming sales tax holiday on clothes, school supplies, sports equipment, and computers is a chance for people to support small businesses rocked by the series of economic setbacks that began with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This year’s tax holiday is Aug. 5-8. “This is a great chance for people to score some terrific deals and help support the local businesses that continue to provide for their communities and keep people working despite the economic challenges,” White said. “Getting through the early months of the pandemic was a tremendous achievement for Main Street, West Virginia,” White said. “Now, owners are dealing with supply chain disruptions, high gas prices, and soaring inflation.” Small business owners surveyed for NFIB’s latest Small Business Economic Trends report ranked inflation as the No. 1 issue affecting their business. “If people do at least some of their back-to-school shopping at local businesses, they’ll not only find great deals and great service, but they’ll help the small, family-run businesses that do a lot throughout the year to support their communities and keep people working,” White said.
