Nationwide Events Urge Small Business Deduction Permanence
What it means: Over the last four months, NFIB members have attended eight roundtables and events across the country to discuss the impact the 20% Small Business Deduction has on their business, employees, and local communities.
Our take: If the Small Business Deduction is not made permanent in 2025, nine out of 10 small businesses will face a massive tax hike. This is NFIB’s top advocacy priority heading into a new Congress next year.

Small businesses that qualify as pass-throughs will be greatly impacted at the end of 2025 if the 20% Small Business Deduction expires. Over the last four months, NFIB members have attended eight roundtables and events across the country to discuss the impact the deduction has on their business, employees, and local communities.
Events were held in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Texas, and Oklahoma about the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that included the Small Business Deduction. The 2017 tax law was created to level the playing field between small businesses and larger corporations, but next year nine out of 10 small businesses will face a massive tax hike if it expires. These roundtable events offered small business owners an opportunity to speak with lawmakers about the benefits of this deduction and what will happen to their business and employees if they lose this deduction and face a massive tax hike.
Without action from Congress, the 20% Small Business Deduction will expire in 2025. Help stop the massive tax hike by telling Congress to make the 20% Small Business Deduction – line 13 on your IRS Form 1040 – permanent. Stay up to date with the latest information on NFIB’s website. Register to virtually attend The Hill’s panel discussion featuring small business leaders, tax experts, and policymakers as they delve into the potential consequences of the deduction expiring.
